Animal Dermatology South

Michael Canfield, DVM, DACVD, Board Certified Veterinary Dermatologist

Dr. Michael Canfield is a southern Mississippi native. Prior to becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Canfield was an electrician for Ingalls shipyard in Pascagoula, MS where he was proud to assist in building several United States Navy ships. Dr. Canfield began his undergraduate studies at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and subsequently transferred to Mississippi State University to complete his undergraduate studies prior to entering Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Canfield graduated from Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine and entered the profession as an eager small animal clinician. Dr. Canfield’s interests in dermatology flourished, ultimately leading him to accept an American College of Veterinary Dermatology approved dermatology residency with Animal Dermatology Clinic located in Tustin, California. Following three years of intense training, Dr. Canfield completed his residency with Animal Dermatology Clinic and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology. Dr. Canfield enjoys dermatology, including allergic skin diseases, ear diseases, and endocrinopathies (hormone-related diseases). Additionally, Dr. Canfield enjoys traditional surgery, cryosurgery, laser surgery, and internal medicine. Dr. Canfield looks forward to serving you and your pet.

Jennifer Thomas, DVM, Dermatology Resident

Dr. Jennifer Thomas is originally from Massachusetts but lived in Oklahoma for over a decade prior to joining the team at Animal Dermatology South. She received her undergraduate degree in biomedical and molecular biology from Bridgewater State College before receiving her veterinary degree from Oklahoma State University.  After veterinary school, Dr. Thomas pursued additional training in veterinary parasitology, which helped foster her interest in animal allergies, as well as skin and ear diseases. She is thrilled to pursue residency training in veterinary dermatology at Animal Dermatology South. Having had her own allergic pets, Dr. Thomas understands how frustrated many owners can become with their pet’s skin and ear disease. As a result, Dr. Thomas strives to help you understand your pet’s diagnosis, and looks forward to working with you to develop both short-term and long-term plans for your pet.
Dr. Thomas has a cat named Lemur, and a horse named Tai, who always keep her laughing. When Dr. Thomas isn’t taking care of your fur babies, she enjoys photography, kayaking, and baking (though her husband will tell you she never puts enough frosting on cupcakes).

Stan Warcholek, DVM, Specialty Intern

Dr. Warcholek was born in Montreal, Quebec but grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He received degrees in Biophysics and biology from Loyola University Chicago where he was heavily involved in a research laboratory that evaluated the influence of land-use and climate change on amphibian and reptile communities. He then went on to graduate with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University where he was, again, heavily involved with research in multiple labs. Dr. Warcholek is passionate about a progressive approach to medicine that makes a change both in the animals’ and owners’ quality of lives in addition to strong professional interests in Dermatology, Emergency and Critical Care, Ophthalmology, and Parasitology. He is currently our Dermatology Intern with a future aspiration of becoming a veterinary dermatologist. While not on duty, Dr. Warcholek volunteers at the local humane society to provide care to animals with need. His second passion is gastronomy, and he loves hiking (recently completing the Camino de Santiago during the summer of 2019). Dr. Warcholek looks forward to working as a team with you and your animal companion.
